Are Your Advertisers as Supportive of Bigotry as Your Writers, Newsweek?

STAND calls out Newsweek 's continuous pattern of anti-religious bigotry.

Dear Mr. Pragad,

Your publication claims it is committed to “factual and fair” “responsible journalism” and that “inclusiveness” is “at the heart” of Newsweek. If these standards exist, we are most definitely not the beneficiaries.

Rather, anti-Scientology bias appears to be editorial policy at Newsweek. A simple Newsweek search will reveal that anything escaping the mouth of an anti-Scientologist is considered “news” at Newsweek—and we do mean any anti-Scientologist. Just last week, Newsweek provided a platform to a rabid bigot who had just lost a local election, to issue an anti-Scientology “warning” to the city that rejected his hate. Your writers frequently quote Leah Remini, a notorious rape apologist who has been exposed by the LAPD and admitted on national television she never vets her anti-Scientology claims. And you regularly give voice to a convicted rapist, Paul Haggis, solely because he spews hate against our religion—omitting the rape trial and verdict in your eagerness to publish his anti-Scientology bigotry on your site. Just as telling is that these articles ignore the conflicts and biases of these individuals, and never tell the true story of our expanding, global religion, with more than 11,000 Churches, Missions and Groups worldwide.

Do you imagine advertisers are as supportive of anti-religious bigotry as your writers? And why is your publication so obsessed with attacking our religion that it is willing to violate your own published standards and drag Newsweek’s name through the mud?

Whatever you discover is the answer, kindly stop spreading hate against our religion.
