Dear Mr. Buccieri,
Congratulations on pouring more fuel on the flames of religious bigotry in America with Leah Remini’s new anti-Scientology “reality show.” Clearly, in your quest for A&E ratings, hatemongering won out over truth.
I have been a Scientologist for 45 years and refuse to stand silent while my religion is disingenuously attacked by a former parishioner—particularly one expelled from my church due to egregious misconduct.
Even more disconcerting is the antireligious sentiment Remini’s show fosters. It’s not just my religious freedom at risk, but religious freedom for people of all faiths as guaranteed by the First Amendment. Ironically, the very same amendment which protects your right to broadcast Remini’s fabrications.
With liberty comes responsibility; you and the A&E network must be held accountable for the information you so blithely broadcast. Want to know about Scientology? Talk to any number of the millions of Scientologists around the world. Or report on the Church’s humanitarian campaigns which have been recognized by countless government agencies—foreign and domestic—for unprecedented workability and results.
Scientologists are well known for taking a stand against bigotry and will continue to do so. To paraphrase one journalist’s sentiments on our fight for religious freedom, “When the going gets rough, pit bulls call a Scientologist.”
Sincerely,
Andrea Kluge
