Dear Mr. Harris,
I recently learned that 20/20 plans to air a program in the coming week that promotes the false idea that the Scientology religion is harmful to children.
As a second-generation Scientologist and the parent of two small kids, I find this quite alarming.
I was raised in Scientology and was brought up in a very loving and happy household. I did Scientology courses as a child that helped me to be a better student, and I credit those courses with my academic success. I also grew up with a moral code that I have carried into adulthood. I have been happily married for almost 15 years.
My seven-year-old son is currently enrolled on a course called the Children’s Communication Course at our local church. My son loves the course so far and I’ve already noticed that he handles his little sister with more respect and is a much better listener. He is also more respectful and kind and I’ve had very good reports from his teachers on these same points.
I am a very protective mom and I trust the staff that have worked with my son. I also worked for a Scientology Mission for several years and I never saw anything but love and care when the staff dealt with children. In fact, I saw more respect and care shown there than I have in any of the well-regarded schools and programs my children have attended outside of the Church.
I can’t imagine what the upcoming program plans to show, but I ask that you take into account the effect this will have on the members of my faith.
Thank You,
Jamie Bristol
