Ms. Mitchell:
I read your piece about Elisabeth Moss and Scientology. It is utterly misguided and reprehensibly misleading.
Scientology is accepted as a religion throughout the world. Since the establishment of the first Church of Scientology in 1954, the religion has grown to millions of members and Scientologists practice in virtually every country of the world.
To quote the recent decision of the UK Supreme Court: “…declare that the chapel at 146 Queen Victoria Street [Church of Scientology of London] is a place of meeting for religious worship.”
To quote the European Court of Human Rights, the highest court in Europe, in the case of the Church of Scientology of Moscow against Russia: “…the Court considers that the interference with the applicant’s right to freedom and association is not justified.”
The Australian High Court ruled in October of 1983 that Scientology is a religion and “the conclusion that [the Church] is a religious institution entitled to tax exemption is irresistible.”
The Italian Supreme Court ruled: “…since the Church of Scientology has been recognized in the U.S. as a religious denomination, it should have been recognized in Italy and thus allowed to practice its worship and to conduct proselytizing activities.”
There are numerous such findings in many countries including the United States, Belgium, Germany, New Zealand, Argentina, India, Canada, Portugal, Colombia, Macedonia, Kenya and other countries. Go to www.scientologyreligion.org for full details.
So for you to describe this religion in any other way than a fully recognized Church shows horrific ignorance of the facts or that you are devoted to parroting the malicious utterings of others.
I strongly recommend you conduct the necessary research before you place finger-on-keyboard. It will save you embarrassment as this article reflects how far behind the times you have fallen.
There is considerably more material at www.scientology.org.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Blair
