Dear Mr. Long:
I’m a Scientologist and have been for 43 years. My father was a Scientologist (until he passed away) and he introduced me to it. My children are Scientologists—by their choice—and so are my grandchildren. In all the years I’ve been in Scientology I have never seen anything the likes of which Ms. Remini speaks. I have received nothing but benefit and so has my family. I have helped untold numbers of people with the various aspects of Scientology.
All that being said, my major point is that my religion is recognized around the world. It is as bonafide as any other religion that has preceded it and is centuries older.
In the USA we are a country essentially founded upon freedom of religion and religious tolerance. People learn that in our society it is expected that there exist respect and tolerance toward people of faith. Where there has become hate and persecution, it has been stamped out and rightfully so.
We Scientologists work with other religious groups to protect them and their rights to exist and seek spiritual advancement. We promote tolerance. We appreciate the understandings and teachings of all faiths. We work against persecution. Our knowledge and works are recognized and respected internationally as well as our efforts and reputation to promote religious freedom.
Ms. Remini’s vitriolic diatribe against Scientology and its leaders is unfounded. She admitted publicly that she is being compensated for it.
You are a sponsor of this show. There have been sponsors in the past who have pulled their advertising away from shows religiously and racially bigoted. They were principled organizations that would not associate their brands with that sort of promotion. Yet you do. I cannot believe that you would be blind to it and not responsible in this. You must have some idea of what her show is about and that it is strictly hate-filled bigotry bought and paid for through your advertising dollars.
I think you should take stock of your ethics in this matter. I for one will personally boycott your products and services and will advise others to do likewise unless you recognize that you are supporting unfounded, hate-filled bigotry motivated by financial greed.
Sincerely,
Rev. Peter J. Vilinsky
