Dear Mr. Bakus,
A&E has announced that professional bigot Leah Remini will continue to host the TV program Aftermath, despite flying in the face of professionalism, good manners, good sense, and the current volatility of American discourse. Way to go, Leah!
It’s nice to see that somebody isn’t cowed by the punitive power of the Internet. So what if loose lips and false characterizations can end reputations in a nano-second? Who cares if consumers are put off by insensitive remarks and can demand a celeb’s firing for even the appearance of rudeness?
With Season Three, Leah Remini is doubling down, not just blatantly attacking the religion of Scientology, but maligning and insulting other mainstream religions as well.
Imagine how proud Ms. Remini will be when her new Aftermath episodes spark more hate crimes, bullying and harassment of innocent parishioners, as they have steadily since its inception.
And how proud the executives of A&E and their parent company, the once family-friendly Disney, will be when they see the results of religious intolerance broadcast on a grand scale.
With race and sexual orientation no longer acceptable topics for ridicule, it’s clear that religion is the only thing left to attack. Leah Remini is simply exercising abundant good sense.
Surely no advertiser could argue that supporting Aftermath and its message of zero-tolerance for people with religious beliefs is just plain good for business.
Sincerely,
Jim Meskimen
