Daily Mail Down to Its Usual Bigoted and False Reportage

Had you exhibited a single iota of genuine interest in the subject, you would have noticed that, not one, but six CCHR documentaries air weekly on Scientology.tv. But again, why allow truth to get in the way of prejudiced coverage of humanitarian activities?

Dear Mr. Walsh,

Wow—the Daily Mail has fallen to an even lower level of bogus “reporting.”

One fact that virtually every psychologist and psychiatrist in Australia knows is that the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) has long been firmly associated with the Church of Scientology. Not only do they know that, but they know that the Church of Scientology co-founded CCHR.

Despite the complete transparency surrounding the relationship, bigots at the Daily Mail worked overtime to create a fresh “angle.” They “discovered,” lo and behold, that CCHR is associated with the Church! This is like “discovering” that Prince William is the son of Prince Charles.

In concocting their story, the tabloid sleuths somehow overlooked such things as the “About Us” section of cchr.org where one finds this text: “CCHR was co-founded in 1969 by the Church of Scientology and Professor of Psychiatry Emeritus Dr. Thomas Szasz…”

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights is committed to investigating and exposing human rights violations in the field of mental health. Many medical professionals—including doctors, scientists, nurses and the more enlightened psychiatrists—have joined CCHR in taking a stance against the biological/drug model of “disease” that is continually foisted off on the public by the psycho-pharmaceutical industry as a way to peddle billions of dollars in sales of brain-damaging drugs.

CCHR is nonpolitical, nonreligious and nonprofit. It is dedicated to eradicating mental health abuses and to bringing about patient and consumer protections. Its board of advisers, include medical doctors, scientists, psychologists, lawyers, legislators, educators, business professionals, artists, and civil and human rights advocates.

CCHR is dedicated to providing accurate information that the psycho-pharmaceutical industry does not want people to see or to know about.

CCHR has worked for nearly 50 years for the rights of all peoples, pushing for full informed consent in the field of mental health and demanding that everyone has the right to all information regarding psychiatric diagnoses and treatment—not just what may come from those with a vested interest in keeping the public in the dark.

Those are the facts. Try including them in future stories.
