Ms. Latondra Newton
SVP & Chief Diversity Officer
The Walt Disney Company
Dear Ms. Newton,
Unfortunately, I must write you again over the same reprehensible matter that I last wrote to you about just three weeks ago. Mike Rinder, who works for Disney under the umbrella of ABC and A&E, continues his steady stream of racist jokes maligning me by mocking my Asian surname on his personal website with a slur that is also homophobic.
Rinder did this again yesterday in the same vein as before. Not only does he insult my Asian heritage, he uses it to attack his former religion, from which he was expelled for gross ethical shortcomings. I do not know the man and have never met him. Nonetheless, he targets me with a bigoted joke that is insulting to all Asians.
Can you please contact him to stop these abuses? I am not a public figure. I am entitled to decency and respect. This reflects poorly on the Disney name, as well as your company’s stated values. Disney was lauded for firing Roseanne Barr for her single tweet, which was certainly no less demeaning than Rinder’s repeated obscenities toward me and my heritage.
I sincerely hope that his comments are inconsistent with Disney’s values of diversity and inclusion. It is with this hope that I write to you, as Disney’s Diversity Officer.
Sincerely,
Michael Chan
