STAND Informs Hollywood Reporter’s John Defore: Your Bigotry Is Unacceptable

Dear Mr. DeFore,

I am unclear as to why you insist upon making a bigoted comment about any religion in, of all places, your film reviews.

Hate is most definitely a slippery slope. I expect next you will be writing about the “charade of Islam” and finding that acceptable.

While the bulk of our nation has spent the last several months making clear discrimination of any kind has no home in America today, you do not seem to have been following the news.

Educate yourself out of your ignorance now.

I recommend starting with this: Charter on Journalistic Ethics in Relation to Respect for Religion or Belief, written by religious freedom experts.

As for Scientology, about which you are clearly misinformed, scientology.tv is the best place to start.

Your disparaging comment is not welcome in today’s world. It merely serves to brand you a bigot, rather than bring any enlightenment to your readers—the purpose of a true journalist.
