Dear Mr. Belverato:
Your 18 July Docuseries “Leah Remini: A Life After Scientology” puff piece fawning after Leah Remini’s hatemongering reality TV show is reprehensible.
You may not know it, but the sole product delivered by Ms. Remini and her 8-part A&E series is over 500 death threats, bomb threats, acts of violence, and actual destruction of property.
Documentation exists of bullied schoolchildren, tormented families and actual crimes of violence for which the perpetrators were caught and served jail time.
And this is what you describe as “widely-acclaimed?”
These are a few examples of Remini’s hate campaign I personally know of. There are many more.
Remini and her sidekick, Mike Rinder, parade themselves as bastions of goodwill, while through their despicable actions they destroy families and happiness left and right and get nominated for it. This is sickening.
The real story is simple: She launched a hate campaign against her former Church and its members, some of whom were previously her friends. There is no altruism in her actions. It’s all about money and keeping her face and name in public. In return, we have done nothing other than reveal the consequences of her actions and the harm she has caused real people.
There is enough hatred and vitriol in our current society. We must all, including you, temper it with decency, mutual respect and understanding.
I strongly urge you to reconsider your position.
Sincerely,
Alicia Selverson
